Report From A Confused Time Traveller

Field Report.

Status: Confused.

Very confused.

I arrived expecting contradiction to be rare.

It appears to be a primary resource.

The following observations are submitted for review.

Humanity says:

“We want peace.”

Then invests in conflict.

Humanity says:

“We want harmony.”

Then rewards division.

Humanity says:

“We want truth.”

Then punishes the people exposing it.

Humanity says:

“We want accountability.”

Then avoids it when it arrives personally.

Humanity says:

“We want freedom.”

Then builds dependencies.

Humanity says:

“We want success.”

Then avoids the responsibilities attached to it.

Humanity says:

“We want equality.”

Then continuously creates hierarchies.

Humanity says:

“We want connection.”

Then isolates itself.

Humanity says:

“We want community.”

Then refuses to participate in one.

Humanity says:

“We want healthier relationships.”

Then avoids difficult conversations.

Humanity says:

“We want trust.”

Then rewards deception over honesty.

Humanity says:

“We want courage.”

Then criticises anyone taking the first step.

Humanity says:

“We want innovation.”

Then attacks what is unfamiliar.

Humanity says:

“We want leaders.”

Then tears down leadership while complaining about the absence of it.

Humanity says:

“We want solutions.”

Then becomes emotionally attached to the problem.

Humanity says:

“We want less corruption.”

Then repeatedly reward convenience over integrity.

Humanity says:

“We want better politicians.”

Then consumes politics as entertainment.

Humanity says:

“We want healthier children.”

Then educates them less than their devices.

Humanity says:

“We want stronger families.”

Then spends more time with strangers than relatives.

Humanity says:

“We want less anxiety.”

Then rehearses catastrophe daily.

Humanity says:

“We want hope.”

Then funds despair.

Humanity says:

“We want purpose.”

Then asks everyone else to define it.

Humanity says:

“We want responsibility.”

Then searches for someone else to blame.

Humanity says:

“We want change.”

Then protects the conditions producing the current outcome.

Humanity says:

“We want a better future.”

Then mortgages it for present comfort.

Humanity says:

“We want abundance.”

Then behaves as though scarcity is the only law.

Humanity says:

“We want life.”

Then organises itself around survival.

Humanity says:

“We want to be seen.”

Then hide.

Humanity says:

“We want to be understood.”

Then refuse to listen.

Humanity says:

“We want love.”

Then flee when love requires growth.

Humanity says:

“We want peace.”

Then become suspicious when peace appears.

Field Conclusion:

I am beginning to suspect humanity’s problem is not a lack of answers.

Humanity appears to possess an extraordinary number of answers.

The challenge seems to be that many people are emotionally committed to outcomes that contradict what they claim to desire.

Further investigation required.

Current Status:

Confused.

Impressed.

Concerned.

Mostly confused.
